Yoga For The Elderly
Yoga is a great way for you to keep fit while being a senior. Yoga gives your body the oxygen it needs and allows your bones to move freely. Please contact your doctor before being at part of any yoga groups. Yoga is only for certain people. Don't worry if you can't bind your head to your feet. You are not required to do something like that. Instead yoga gives you a set of stress releasing movements that will make you feel great afterwards. Before going to a class, practice at home with a book or video. This will help you prepare. And this will also allow to feel less embarrassed when you can't do a certain position. If you can't do it.. You can't do it.
When choosing a yoga class or group to join find one that is made for seniors. These instructors will work at a lot slower pace than others and they also won't make you do some crazy yoga positions. Always consider private lessons. This will ready you to work in a group or by yourself at home. Yoga is a great thing to do with a friend. Have a private session with just you and a friend. You'll have fun staying in shape together and getting to talk about it afterwards.
There are many positions you will have to do. You will do a pose called the cat pose. The cat post help you learn to initiate movement from your center. During yoga you will breathe deeply and slowly. You will learn to control each part of your body in a new way that you never thought of. Many times when senior join in a yoga class they do not suffer from weak bones and have an easier time keeping active.
